Privacy Policy
TianJi — BaZi (Four Pillars) chart application for iOS
This Policy describes how we handle personal data in connection with the TianJi iOS app and related services (for example chart generation and optional online features). If you are in Singapore, we aim to align with the Personal Data Protection Act 2012 (PDPA) concerning notice, reasonable purpose, consent where required, care of personal data, and related obligations, to the extent those rules apply to how we operate. We have regard to official PDPC materials linked below.
Users may be located in other countries; additional laws (for example in the European Union, United Kingdom, or United States) may also apply to you. This Policy is not legal advice and does not list every possible legal obligation. Where this Policy differs from the App Store listing, disclosures within the App, or Apple’s requirements, those should be reconciled with qualified counsel.
We respect your privacy. This document explains what information we process when you use the App, why we process it, and what choices you may have. Please read it together with our Terms of Use and Disclaimer in the App.
Framework and references
Singapore (PDPA). Where the PDPA applies to our activities, we intend to comply with its requirements for the collection, use, and disclosure of personal data, subject to exceptions in the Act. The statutory framework and PDPC overview are described at PDPC: Personal Data Protection Act overview. We also take guidance from PDPC’s Advisory Guidelines on Key Concepts in the PDPA (PDF, 17 May 2022) when explaining concepts such as purpose, consent, and protection in this Policy. Those PDPC materials are authoritative; this page is our application-specific notice and may be updated when the law, regulatory guidance, or our product changes.
Apple. TianJi is distributed through the Apple App Store. We comply with applicable Apple program and review requirements, including accurate completion of App Store privacy details (such as the privacy “nutrition label” and data use declarations), permission usage, account rules, and the agreements that govern the App. See Apple Privacy Policy for Apple’s own data practices, and App Store Review Guidelines for rules that affect app behaviour. If an App Store listing, label, or Apple requirement conflicts with an older copy of this Policy, follow the App Store presentation and Apple’s published rules for distribution, and contact us if something looks inconsistent.
Summary
What the App does today. The App provides BaZi (Four Pillars) chart generation and related features, including optional AI-assisted consultant readings described in Section 6.
No ads, no sale of personal data. We do not show ads from third parties. We do not sell personal information. We do not use your information for tracking across apps or across websites for advertising.
No analytics or crash reporting (current). We do not use third-party analytics or crash-reporting services in the App at this time.
No push notifications or advertising SDKs. We do not send push notifications and do not use advertising or tracking SDKs.
Online services. Some features use our online backend (hosted by Google) and, for optional AI-assisted readings, a third-party AI provider (OpenAI). Details are in Sections 6 and 8.
Minimal processing. We process information only to operate the App (charts, optional AI-assisted readings, purchases, security, reliability, and support you start). We do not ask for access to your contacts, photo library, or precise location for chart features.
Support. If you use Contact support in Settings, you may send a short diagnostic excerpt and basic device or app details only in that email. We design that excerpt not to include birth details or raw chart content unless you put them in the email body. See Section 4.
If anything in this Policy conflicts with the App Store listing, disclosures within the App, or Apple’s requirements, treat the listing and Apple’s rules as controlling for distribution and reconcile any mismatch with qualified counsel.
1. Who we are
This Policy applies to Michael Tan and the TianJi iOS application, including our use of service providers named in Section 8 (and Apple for the App Store and platform services). Contact details are in Section 16 at the end of this page.
2. Scope
The App lets you create and manage BaZi charts, with online support where a feature needs it, and optional AI-assisted consultant readings. This Policy covers: information processed on your device; information processed through our online services; and information you voluntarily email when you contact support. It does not govern websites or services operated by third parties that we do not control.
3. Categories of information
We describe data in plain language consistent with how Apple and many laws refer to personal information or personal data. Information you enter to generate a chart (such as birth date, birth time, timezone, and gender) is personal information because it identifies or relates to a person. We use it only as described here.
3.1 What you provide (chart inputs)
When you create or edit a chart, you may enter an optional label or name; date of birth, time of birth, timezone, and gender (needed for calculation); and notes stored locally with the chart. Avoid entering more sensitive data than you need; you are responsible for accuracy.
3.2 On your device
The App stores charts and related reading content, purchase and entitlement status, and preferences (for example language, disclaimer acceptance, and whether you allow AI reading data sharing) on your device. Unless sent to our servers or exported by you, we cannot access content stored only on your device.
3.3 On our servers
When you use features that rely on our online service (for example generating a chart, syncing purchases, or an AI-assisted reading), the App sends the information needed for that request. This may include a pseudonymous account ID (we do not use email/password accounts), basic app and device information needed to provide the service, chart inputs and/or structured chart results for calculation features, and for optional AI-assisted readings the reading text described in Section 6.
3.4 Technical data from online use
When you use online features, our service providers may process ordinary technical metadata needed to deliver the service (for example IP address, timestamps, and operational logs). We do not use third-party analytics or crash-reporting services in the current App. We do not use cookies or mobile ad IDs for advertising or profiling across apps.
4. Support diagnostics and email
You may use Settings → Contact support (when present) to open an email to us. Nothing is sent automatically. You decide whether to tap send. We do not collect your email as an App account field; we only see an address if your mail app includes it when you send.
- What the email may include (by design): device and app details for troubleshooting (for example device model, iOS version, app version, locale); a short excerpt of a diagnostic log from your device for recent errors.
- What belongs out of the log: We intend not to include raw chart content, birth dates or times, or similar chart-identifying detail in this log. Entries should be short lines that help us debug without unnecessary personal detail.
- If you need to share sensitive chart data to resolve a bug, do that only if you choose to type or attach it in the email. We will use only what you send to answer your support request, subject to normal support and legal retention.
5. How we use information
We use information to:
- Generate, display, and store BaZi and related charts and readings
- Provide optional AI-assisted consultant readings after you give permission in the App (see Section 6)
- Manage purchases and entitlements
- Operate, secure, and improve the service
- Respond to support requests you send
- Comply with law and our Terms of Use
Chart and AI-assisted reading output is for personal reflection only. It is not medical, legal, financial, or other professional advice; see the Terms of Use and Disclaimer in the App.
6. Generative AI and readings
Some consultant insights use a third-party AI service. When you use those features, we may share compressed reading text (and for some Qi Men insights, your selected question) with OpenAI so it can rewrite that text into a readable reading returned to the App.
We do not send your birth date or birth time, raw chart files, or an account email address to OpenAI for those features.
Before the first share, the App explains what is sent, that a third-party AI provider (OpenAI, as named here) will receive it, and asks for your permission. You can turn this off anytime in Settings under AI reading data sharing. If you turn it off, you will be asked again before the next AI-assisted reading.
AI output can be inaccurate. The App does not offer free-form AI chat.
7. Legal bases (EEA / UK style)
Where GDPR or similar laws apply, we typically rely on performance of a contract (providing the App and requested features, including paid items), legitimate interests (security, fraud and abuse prevention, reliable operation, correlating support with technical context) balanced against your rights, and consent where the law requires it for a specific processing activity (including optional AI reading data sharing). Contact us if you need jurisdiction-specific information.
8. Sharing and subprocessors
We share information with recipients that help us run the App:
| Recipient | Role |
|---|---|
| Google (Firebase / Google Cloud) | Hosts our online backend (for example chart generation and related account records). See Firebase Privacy and Security. |
| OpenAI | Processes reading text for optional AI-assisted consultant features (see Section 6). See OpenAI’s Privacy Policy. |
| Apple | App Store distribution, purchases, and related platform services. See Apple’s Privacy Policy. |
| Professional advisers or authorities | When required by law or to protect rights and safety. |
We require that third parties who receive user data in connection with the App provide the same or equal protection of that data as described in this Policy and required by Apple’s App Store Review Guidelines. We do not sell personal information. We do not share it for behavioural advertising across contexts.
9. Retention
Data stored on your device stays on the device until you delete charts or app data in the App, uninstall the App, or erase the device. We cannot delete local files from our side.
Data stored on the server is kept only as long as needed to provide the service, meet legal duties, resolve disputes, and enforce agreements.
Support emails may be kept for a reasonable period to finish the thread and for internal quality, unless law requires longer retention.
10. Security
We use measures appropriate to the risk to protect personal data in transit and at rest, and to limit access to our systems. No storage or transmission method is completely secure.
11. Children
The App is not directed at children under 13 (or the higher age required where you live). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have, contact us and we will take appropriate steps.
12. International transfers
Data may be processed in the United States and other countries where our service providers operate (including Google and, for AI-assisted readings, OpenAI). Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards (for example standard contractual clauses).
13. Your rights and choices
AI reading data sharing: Turn this off in Settings to withdraw permission for AI-assisted readings.
Data stored on your device: Delete charts or reset data in the App, or uninstall. That removes local copies from your device; it does not, by itself, erase server records that may still exist for your installation.
Data stored on the server: Email tianjisupport@gmail.com from an address you can receive mail at. Describe your request (delete my records stored on the server, access, etc.). Because accounts are anonymous (no email login), we may ask for reasonable information (for example your support email thread, approximate purchase date, or other non-sensitive cues) to match your request to the right records. Where deletion is possible, we will delete or anonymise relevant server data we control, subject to legal retention needs.
Depending on where you live, you may have other rights (access, correction, export, object, restrict processing, withdraw consent where applicable). On iOS you can uninstall the App and use system privacy and network settings Apple provides. We respond within the time applicable law requires where that applies.
14. California and other U.S. states (summary)
Under some U.S. state laws you may have rights such as access, deletion, correction, the right to opt out of certain sale or sharing, and appeal. We do not sell personal information and do not use behavioural advertising across contexts as described in those laws for our App. For requests, contact tianjisupport@gmail.com. We do not discriminate for exercising these rights. Categories of information are described above; purposes in Section 5.
15. Changes
We may update this Policy from time to time. We will change the “Last updated” date and, where appropriate, give notice in the App or otherwise as required by law.
